Cairo, April 4 – Minister of Trade and Industry, Tarek Kabil, met on Wednesday the Lebanese Ambassador to Egypt, Ali el-Halabi, to discuss the means of cementing joint co-operation between the two countries in all domains. Enhancing Egypt-Lebanon economic ties is at the top priorities of the governments of both countries, Minister Kabil stated. Minister Kabil, meanwhile, stressed the paramount importance of expanding the volume of trade exchange between the two countries. He also emphasised Egypt's keenness on supporting the Lebanese people with the key aim of achieving permanent peace in Lebanon. The meeting also highlighted the keenness of both countries on eliminating any intra-trade obstacles, a matter that would mark a major leap in trade exchange rates. In 2017, Egypt-Lebanon trade exchange hit $674 million, according to Kabil. In a related context, Kabil said that Egypt aspires to become Lebanon's most important commercial partner and a hub for Lebanese investments in Africa by injecting more Lebanese investments into Egypt's market. The Lebanese Ambassador Halabi, for his part, stressed Lebanon's interest in developing bilateral ties and fostering strategic partnership. He also referred to tourism co-operation between the two countries which is witnessing major progress at present.
