Environment Minister highlights preparations of "Road to COP27" summit in Sharm El-Sheikh
Egypt recently launches National Climate Change Strategy 2050

Egypt's Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad, the Ministerial Envoy for the upcoming COP27, participated via video conference in the "Road to COP27" session on the sidelines of the Future Investment Initiative Institute conference in the United Kingdom, the Environment Ministry said in a statement on Sunday.
During her speech, Yasmine emphasized the continuous communication between the Egyptian presidency of the COP27 and the British presidency of the COP26, referring to the recent meeting between Egypt's Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, the President of the COP27, and Alok Sharma, the President of the UK hosted COP26,
Shoukry's meeting with Sharma discussed mechanisms for advancing climate action, and building on the outcomes of the Glasgow conference, and the importance of completing work on two important outputs for the COP26, namely the preparation of the global adaptation goal, and the initiation of discussions on the new collective goal of climate finance.
Yasmine explained that Egypt seeks to present a realistic model to the world of the possibility of facing the effects of climate change that can be replicated and built upon, by transforming the city of Sharm El-Sheikh -hosting the COP27- into a green city.
This could be done by switching to electric transport, and helping hotels obtain the Green Star, spreading the work of solar energy units inside hotels by facilitating partnership with the private sector and banks, and changing the waste management system, according to the minister.
She further added that the COP27 will push forward the process of drafting the pledges launched by the developed countries at the Glasgow conference, at the level of leaders and high-level representation from ministers and officials, highlighting the profitable approach from including the private sector as a partner in climate finance, and providing attractive financing incentives.
The Minister of Environment pointed to Egypt's recent launch of the National Climate Change Strategy 2050, which is a comprehensive framework that addresses, in addition to mitigation and adaptation measures, climate governance, roles and responsibilities, infrastructure for climate financing systems, and the role of science and technology, in light of the country's path to achieving sustainable development and supporting emerging markets.
