Egypt's Minister of Culture Inas Abdel Dayem will launch a major artistic celebration celebrating the 100th anniversary marking the establishment of the Sayed Darwish Theater in Alexandria. The celebratory activities, organised by the Egyptian Opera House, will kick off on 4 July at the Alexandria Opera House, and will run for four days until 8 July. Abdel Dayem said that Egypt enjoys a rich history in all fields, and its architecture represents an important part of its cultural heritage. She pointed out that the Sayed Darwish Theater represents one of the prominent landmarks in Alexandria, and has witnessed many of the artistic and historical events that took place in the city. Moreover, the minister said that celebrating the centenary of the Sayed Darwish Theater's establishment comes as part of the strategy acquainting new generations with bright pages of Egypt's history. It also serves to emphasise the country's pride in its icons that formed its soft power. The Alexandria Opera House, called the Sayed Darwish Theater, was inaugurated in 1921 during the reign of King Fuad I. The theatre currently accommodates artistic performances by the Cairo Opera House companies, such as the opera and ballet companies, the symphony or opera orchestras, different Arab music ensembles, and the modern dance theatre. There are visiting companies, local and foreign recitals, Cultural Weeks, and Arab and international festivals also held at the theatre.
