Project to construct one million new housing units

Egypt's Ministry of Housing and Urban Communities announced plans to construct 175,000 new housing units in 25 Egyptian governorates over the coming fiscal year, as part of the social housing plan to construct a million new units in areas of high population density.
New housing projects will use solar energy, with an emphasis on installing these on high rise buildings in governorates such as Al-Buhaira and Port Said, where limits on land available for construction encourages higher living density.
The plan is set to be implemented over a period of 5 years, during which 850,000 new units will be constructed and an additional 150,000 slum units replaced and converted.
In Cairo governorate, the cities of Badr and May 15th will see the construction of 97,100 new units, in addition to converting 42,300 slum units, bringing the total of all new or renovated units in the area to 139,400. In Giza, 68,600 new units are to be established, with another 8,700 slum units converted, totalling 77,300 in the governorate as a whole.
In the city of Borg Al-Arab in Alexandria, 47,500 units are set to be constructed and 900 redeveloped, with the total number of newly available buildings reaching 48,400.
Beheira will seek to construct 55,400 units, with an addition 1,100 units converted, totalling 56,500 throughout the governorate, while the Matruh governorate will seek to construct 4,100 new units, with an additional 200 being converted, bringing the total number to 4,300.
The Ministry further plans to construct 57,800 units in the Daqahleya governorate and to renovate 5,800, bringing the governorate's total number of new housing units to 63,600. In Sadat City in Menufiya, 37,900 new housing units are to be constructed in addition to 2,900 slum units to be renovated, bringing the governorate's total number to 40,800.
12,900 new units are set to be constructed in Domietta and 200 will be renovated. In Kafr Al-Sheikh, 34,600 units are set to be constructed, with an additional 4,200 slum units renovated. In the Gharbeya governorate, 46,200 units are set to be constructed and 3,200 slum units renovated, bringing the governorate's total number to 49,400.
In Port Said, 11,500 new units are set to be constructed, with an additional 11,200 slum units renovated. In Suez, 6,000 new units are set to be constructed, with an additional 1,200 slum units converted, bringing the governorate's total number to 7,200. In 10th of Ramadan City in Sharqeya governorate, 63,100 units are set to be constructed with an additional 600 slum units converted.
In North Sinai, the Ministry seeks to construct 2,600 new units, in addition to 1,200 in South Sinai, along with 3,500 slum units set to be renovated. This brings the total number of new and renovated housing units up to 4,700.
In the Fayoum governorate, some 29,800 housing units are set to be constructed, along with 44,000 in Beni Suef. In the governorate of Minya, the Ministry seeks to construct 51,400 new housing units.
In New Assiut city in the governorate of Assiut, 47,100 housing units are to be constructed, while an additional 48,700 are set to be built in Sohag. 39,400 units are also set to be constructed in Qena, along with 3,900 in the New Valley governorate.
The Ministry further seeks to construct 14,300 new units in the city of Tayyiba in Luxor governorate, in addition to 14,600 units in Aswan, along with 12,800 in the Red Sea governorate.
