EGP 70m spent on Port Said fishing industry
Published in Daily News Egypt on 19 - 03 - 2013

Ahmed Abdullah, Governor of Port Said, said that EGP 70m had been spent to help purify the governorate's lakes and expand its canals in order to provide better access to the region's fishing reserves.
He added that the project's second and third stages would consist of developing the region's slums to make Port Said a slum-free province.
Abdullah added that he had signed an agreement with the Minister of Housing and Urban Communities to establish 8,500 new housing units, in addition to 3,500 for low income residents.
He added that he was currently cooperating with other Ministries to obtain an extra 360 acres of land to add to the land which will be used to construct an additional 40,000 housing units in eastern Port Said.
Abdullah went on to state that nearly 50% of homes in the city of Port Fuad had been equipped with natural gas, and that renovation of the city's lighting and sidewalks had also been recently completed.
Plans were also being considered to construct a bridge in Port Said to facilitate the movement of citizens, in addition to allotting an additional 260 acres of land to Port Said University for expansion of colleges and faculties operating on campus.
Plans were also underway to help renovate sidewalks and walkways in the city's port to reduce traffic congestion and limit the need for cargo trucks to leave the port premises.
The city's western port was also being renovated to expand its sidewalks and walkways to 2,760 metres in length.
Plans were also unveiled to construct a slaughterhouse, fattening station and quarantine centre for ships arriving in the port carrying livestock to facilitate the transport of livestock to Suez or Safaga.
