Chevrolet dominates automobile market

According to figures provided by the Automotive Marketing Information Council (AMIC), the Hyundai Elentra was the best performing new vehicle available in the Egyptian market, recording 4,800 units sold during the first five months of the current year.
In addition, Hyndai's new Accent RB model sold 3,200 units, strengthening its position in the market. AMIC's numbers indicated modest sales of the company's Volestar model, with only 206 units sold.
Kia occupied third place in the private car market, with the company's Sportage 1600 CC selling 1,600 units, whereas none of the 2000 CC sportage units were sold.
The Kia Carens sold 2,100 during the first five months of the current year.
Kia Picanto sales were recorded at 805 units while the new Rio model sold 670.
The Sorento and Carnival models only sold four and six units respectively.
The Toyota Fortuner sold 96 4000 CC units and 52 2700 CC units.
The new Volkswagen Jetta sold 176 units while the Nissan Qashqai did not sell any units.
Peugeot sold 176 units while the Skoda Octavia Fantasia sold 1,600 units.
The Speranza M12 sold 141 and the Hyundai Sonata sold only two units.
Chevrolet dominated the automobile market, selling 19,800 units and accounting for 26.4% of the domestic market.
Hyndai came in second with 18,300 units while Kia was in third with 7,100 units.
Toyota was in fourth place with 4,800 units sold and Renault was in fifth with 3,090 units.
The AMIC report showed that 75,100 units have been sold in the first five months of the current year, compared to 59,600 units during the same period the previous year, an increase of 26%.
In the privately owned car market, Hyndai led with 18,100 total units sold, accounting for 34.2% of the market.
Chevrolet followed with 8,600 units sold, accounting for 16.2% of the market.
Kia sold 7,100 privately owned cars, or 13.5% of the market. Renault occupied fourth place with 3,000 cars sold, accounting for 5.8% of the market.
Speranza followed with 2,700 units sold, or 5.2% of the market.
Suzuki led the bus market with 1,700 units sold, compared to 1,200 in the same period in the previous year.
The Chinese company, Golden Dragon, surprised the market to occupy second place with 1,300 busses sold.
Chevrolet dominated the truck market with 10,400 units sold, with Toyota coming in a distant second with 1,600 units.
