The Accomplishments of Former Housing Minister, Ahmed El Maghraby

Within only five years, during the period from 2005/2006 to 2009/2010, the Ministry of Housing implemented 134 projects at a cost of 12.6 billion Egyptian Pounds, including bridges, Al Zaheer Desert Villages, developing the poorer villages, the National Project for Housing, drinking water, sewerage system and other services projects such hospitals and power stations.
All these projects do exist and we as Egyptian feel their existence during our daily life, and it is unfair to forget such achievements that must have required great efforts to be completed in such a short time.
Following are some of the projects implemented by the Ministry of Housing during these five years:
Roads and Bridges Projects during the Term of the Former Minister Ahmed El Maghraby:
Al Taameer Axis at a length of 32 KM including 7 beam bridges at the cost of 950,000,000.00 EGP, Saft El Laban Axis at the cost of 900,000,000.00 EGP, Al Boroluss/Balteem/Kafr El Sheikh Brnaches at the cost of 440,000,000.00 EGP, Damietta Bridge at a length of 1.5 KM at the cost of 250,000,000.00 EGP. Kafr El Zayyat Bridge at a length 1.130 KM at the cost of 190,000,000.00 EGP. Lebanon Square Bridge at a length 600.00 meters at the cost of 55,000,000.00 EGP, Faisal Bridge Exit at El Gamaa Street, the development of July 26 Axis, the free crossroad between Ismailia Desert Road and the Ring Road, Giza Metal Bridge Exit at the cost of 70,000,000.00 EGP, Al Mansoura/Gamasa Branches (First Sector) at the cost of 170,000,000.00 EGP, the Port-Sudan Road at the Egyptian-Sudanese Boarders at a length of 140 KM and the cost of 270,000,000.00 EGP, El Maryoutia Axis at the cost 1,000 million EGP, the development of Giza Square (Mourad Street Tunnel) at the cost of 70,000,000.00 EGP, Al Mansoura/Gamasa Branches (Second Sector) at the cost of 55,000,000.00 EGP, Reformation of Al Aawayed Bridge in Alexandria at the cost of 40,000,000.0 EGP, development of Kerdasa Road at the cost of 60,000,000.00 EGP, Al Mansoura/Gamasa Branches (Third Sector) at the cost of 75,000,000.00 EGP, the pedestrian bridge at El Maasara on the Autostrad Band at the cost of 10,000,000.00 EGP.
Drinking Water Projects during the Term of the Former Minister Ahmed El Maghraby:
The Water Station at the South of Al Alamein at the cost of 310,000,000.00 EGP producing 167,000.00 cubic meters of water daily, the Internal Water network of Matrouh City at the cost of 255,000,000.00 EGP, The Water Network at Hurghada City at a length of 300 KM and a cost of 100,000,000.00 EGP, the Ras Al Hekma/Matrouh Water Line at the cost of 85,000,000.00 EGP, Al Reesa Water Raising Station producing 35,000.00 cubic meters of water daily, Al Asher Men Ramadan Line producing 110,000.00 cubic meters of water daily, Al Kantara Sharq/Al Aarish Line producing 104,000.00 cubic meters of water daily, Desalination Station at Al Koseir City producing 3,000.00 cubic meters of water daily, and the expansions of the Seawater Desalination Station at Sharm El Sheikh City.
Irrigation Water Projects during the Term of the Former Minister Ahmed El Maghraby:
5 Water Tertiary Treatment Stations producing 260,000.00 cubic meters of water used only in irrigation at 6 October City, New Cairo, 15 May, Al Shorouq and Tiba.
Sewerage Projects during the Term of the Former Minister Ahmed El Maghraby:
An integrated sewerage network at Al Dakhla at the cost of 66,000,000.00 EGP, integrated sewerage networks at Abou Zneima at the cost of 47,000,000.00 EGP, and the Industrial Sewerage Network at Portsaid at the cost of 32,000,000.00 EGP.
Housing Projects during the Term of the Former Minister Ahmed El Maghraby:
This is a saga worth a pause, as over 25 years since 1980 until 2005, the consecutive Government established only 675 thousand housing units.
While the Ministry of Housing during the term of Minister Ahmed El Maghraby established 460 thousand housing units in only five years from 2005 to 2020, 60 thousand of which were established by the New Urban Communities Authority and the other 400 thousand were established by the Private Sector.
The National Housing Project during the Term of the Former Minister Ahmed El Maghraby:
The Ministry of Housing, during the past five years, delivered 31 thousand housing units with an area of 63 m², and allocated 92 thousand plots of land with an area of 150 m² for the plot for those meeting with the conditions of the National Housing Project “Ebny Beitak (Build your House)” which is composed of a ground floor and two stories (including three housing units) with an area of 63 m² for the unit at the price of 70.0 EGP/1 m², and allocated 6675 feddans to 141 companies in 14 cities to implement 55 thousand family housing units.
The Half Million House Project during the Term of the Former Minister Ahmed El Maghraby:
The Ministry of Housing delivered 303 thousand units and annexed plots of land for the construction of units since 2005, another 166 thousand housing unit by ownership system, 7000 housing unit through leasing, 3000 housing units through Family House System in 6 October City, 7000 housing units through Suburban House System, 92 thousand plots of land for Ebny Beitak Project, 19000 housing units established by the Private Sector, and 9000 units for the underprivileged families.
Land Projects during the Term of the Former Minister Ahmed El Maghraby:
Same applies to land areas, as during the period from 2005 to 2010, the Ministry of Housing managed to invest 60 thousand feddans, while the total amount of lands invested by the previous Governments throughout the period from 1980 to 2005 is 155 thousand feddans.
This means that during the past five years, the Ministry of Housing succeeded in the investment of 52% of the lands invested by the consecutive government over 25 years.
The 60 thousand feddans were administred as follows:
9 thousand feddans of lands invested by closed envelopes bids, 5400 feddans of housing lands by lots to individuas, 6676 feddans of the National Housing Project lands to investors, 9400 feddans of the land of Ebny Beitak Project, 900 feddans of land for services to unions, assemblies and governmental authorities, and 20 thousand feddans of lands were allocated for industrial purposes.
Building Licenses during the Term of the Former Minister Ahmed El Maghraby:
The Ministry of Housing granted 115 thousand building licenses at the new cities during the period from 2006 to 2010 only. 96 thousand of such licenses are residential, 9 thousand industrial licenses to plants and warehouses, and 10 thousand services licenses for education and health and the like, in addition to 77 thousand licenses for Ebny Beitak Project.
Al Zaheer Desert Projects during the Term of the Former Minister Ahmed El Maghraby:
The first phase is completely finalized and includes 15 villages, and six villages of the second phase are completed. The total cost of both phases is 700,000,000.00 EGP.
Factories during the Term of the Former Minister Ahmed El Maghraby:
The Ministry of Housing contributed in the establishment of 2520 plants throughout the period from 2006 to 2010, while the total number of plants in which the former ministries of housing participated during the period from 1980 to 2005 is only 3480 plants. The investments of the plants established by the participation of the Ministry of Housing during the past five years is 75 billion EGP and provide 437 thousand employment opportunities.
Services Projects during the Term of the Former Minister Ahmed El Maghraby:
Treatment of liquid industrial waste at Ain Sokhna at the cost of 100,000,000.00 EGP and at Al Boroluss Port at the cost of 50,000,000.00 EGP, development of the internal utilities of Monshaet Nasser at the cost of 48,000,000.00 EGP, the fifth phase of the Monshaet Nasser Development Project at the cost of 25,000,000.00 EGP, the fourth phase of the Monshaet Nasser Development Project at the cost of 22,000,000.00 EGP, the restoration of the North Cairo Wall at the cost of 23,000,000.00 EGP, and the relief and emergency hospital at Ras Al Hekma at the cost of 20,000,000.00 EGP.
