Five liners coming from the United States, Australia, Brazil, Romania and Ukraine arrived in the port of Alexandria on Wednesday carrying a total of 227,000 tonnes of wheat. Adel Yasin Hamad, president of the Alexandria Port Authority (APA), stated: “The Port's regulatory officials have completed steps to offload and vaporise all wheat shipments from the five incoming liners in order to ensure that they are safe for long term consumption, in addition to ridding all silos of insects." He added that the ship liner Gas Suez coming from Algeria carrying 13,000 tonnes of butane had also been successfully unloaded. Reda Al-Ghandour, spokesman for the APA, stated that the port had received nine ships carrying 468 tonnes and 109 kg of wheat, in addition to five liners carrying 156 tonnes of wheat and 47 kg of diesel, and four ships carrying 61 tonnes of wheat and 97 kg of butane, during the month of April. The port further received seven ships carrying 224 tonnes and 682 kg of cement clinker and petroleum resources, in addition to 25 ships carrying 6,839 cars. All these served as indicators of the increased rate of trade occurring at the Port of Alexandria, said Al-Ghandour.
