CAIRO: Chairman of the Higher Committee to Defend the Rights of Education Sector Administrators, Fawzi Abdel Fattah, announced Saturday that education administrators will hold another protest in front of the International Labor Organization (ILO) office in Cairo on April 29. He said that they decided to resort to the international organization after the negative response to their demands from the Egyptian government. The April 29 protest would be a culmination of a series of protests staged by education sector administrators who are demanding a 50 percent pay increase which was approved by the People's Assembly (PA) as part of the amended teachers' law in 2007. Two weeks ago, they organized a protest in front of the Ministry of Education, where hundreds of protestors called on President Hosni Mubarak to intervene and resolve the matter. However, the protest was thwarted by security forces. Last March, they held protests for three consecutive days in different cities. They also resumed with more protests on April 5, 6 and 7 in front of the (PA). Education sector administrators vowed to continue protesting in different governorates in Egypt until their demands are met.
