NAIROBI: The government of Kenya will be hosting an eHealth conference that will be sponsored by the African Development Bank (AfDB). The conference will spot the best practices and lessons learned from previous experiences of developing national eHealth strategies. It will also provide an opportunity to share knowledge about the implementation of new eHealth strategies. They will focus on delivery of clinical information, care and services using Information Communication Technology (ICT). The event will also focus on how to integrate mHealth into eHealth. This is seen at a time when Africa was named the second largest user of mobile phone after Latin America according to a GSMA report of 2011 that was conducted in Africa for the first time. “With over 620 million mobile connections as of September 2011, Africa has overtaken Latin America to become the second largest mobile market in the world, after Asia.” Thus with such a strong foothold in this sector, mobile technology can be used to leverage health care delivery (mHealth). This could represent a significant market opportunity for health and ICT entrepreneurs. Thus create an opportunity to develop inventive ideas that solve existing problems in healthcare.
