CAIRO: Presidential candidate Hamdeen Sabahi, welcomed the decision of the Higher Presidential Elections Commission (HPEC) to disqualify and bar some of the candidates, who are widely seen as remnants of the former regime of Mubarak. Sabahi said that the disqualification of some of the remnants of the former regime from the presidential race, is a positive step, and spared Egypt, the people and the revolution the crisis the state was about to face. “I hope that the decision would be followed by another barring the rest of the remnants of the former regime from the presidential race through the bill recently passed by the parliament, so that the outcome of the presidential elections would be in accordance with the January 25 revolution's goals, where patriotic revolutionary candidates contest, without any concern of any possibility to reproduce the former regime and its figures. And I am confident in the consciousness of the Egyptian people,” the presidential candidate said in a statement on Sunday. The presidential candidate continued, “although there are many competitors who have been disqualified for one reason or another, and whom I wish were still running for the presidential elections because they represent the enrichment of the competition, representing respectable national figures, and belong to the revolution camp, but their disqualification does not reduce their value in any way. And certainly, Egypt will benefit from them in other positions and roles. Hamdeen Sabahi called on the disqualified candidates affected by the decisions of the Elections Commission to comply with the law and manifestations of the peaceful expression of opinion.
