Officials have denied an earlier report by MENA state news agency that an improvised bomb exploded on Friday near a water pipeline in 10 Ramadan city on the northern outskirts of Cairo. The security director of Sharqiya governorate, Sameh El-Kilany, told Al-Ahram Arabic website that water pipeline damage in parts of 10 Ramadan was not caused by a bomb. A source in the Holding Company for Water and Waste also denied the reports, Al-Ahram Arabic reported. The source said "heavy pressure" broke the PVC water pipeline, cutting the supply to the Ebny Beitak area. Repairs are currently underway. Earlier on Friday, two bombs exploded in two different cities in Sharqiya. One of the bombs was planted on railway tracks, while the other exploded on a public transport bus. No casualties were reported. Water cuts are regular occurrences in Cairo and other cities. Earlier in September, Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab blamed water outages on "gross negligence" on the part of employees at state water plants and ordered some be questioned by the prosecutor. Many impoverished communities and informally established developments are not connected to the water supply and rely on wells or water delivery companies to provide them with water.
