Egypt exported around 5,000 food consignments in the week from 13-19 Dec., with a total volume of about 192,000 tons, the National Food Safety Authority (NFSA) said in its weekly report on Sunday. The shipments were sent by roughly 1,400 exporting companies and covered about 672 food products, including fruits, vegetables, and tubers, flour and grain-based products, processed fruit and vegetable preparations, and other food items, according to the authority's media centre. Sweet potatoes led Egypt's vegetable exports during the week, with shipments of 10,000 tons, followed by beans of various types at 7,000 tons and mixed frozen vegetables at 5,000 tons. In total, Egypt exported 32 vegetable items amounting to 37,000 tons. Citrus fruits topped fruit exports at 26,000 tons, followed by strawberries at around 10,000 tons and dates of various varieties at 6,000 tons. Overall fruit exports comprised 34 items, with combined volumes of 50,000 tons. Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Spain, Russia, and Lebanon were among the largest importers of Egyptian food exports during the week, out of a total of 177 destination countries, the NFSA said.
