Egypt and China signed Thursday an agreement for a feasibility study grant aimed at developing a national prosthetics system. The project is part of Cairo's ambition to become a regional centre for assistive medical technology, according to a statement from the Ministry of International Cooperation on Friday. The deal, worth 1.520 million Chinese yuan, was signed by Egyptian Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Rania Al-Mashat and Chen Xiaodong, Chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), during the official visit of Chinese Premier Li Qiang to Egypt. The signing, held at the Cabinet headquarters in the New Administrative Capital, was witnessed by Egyptian Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly and Premier Li. The proposed project will support Egypt's plan to establish itself as a hub in the Middle East and Africa for the production and provision of prosthetic limbs and assistive devices, built to international specifications. "This project reflects Egypt's commitment to inclusive development and improving the quality of life for people with disabilities," the Ministry of International Cooperation said in a statement, highlighting the country's growing partnership with China across health, technology, and industrial sectors.
