Egypt's Minister of Planning and Economic Development Rania Al Mashat welcomed on Thursday Egypt's newly appointed Egyptian Ambassador to China Khaled Nazmy in a meeting focused on boosting relations with China. Al Mashat emphasised China's importance as one of Egypt's key development partners, with cooperation spanning infrastructure, scientific research, human capital investment, healthcare, education, and other priority sectors. She highlighted the ongoing evolution of Egyptian-Chinese economic ties, particularly the signing of the first ever debt-for-development swap agreement in October 2023 during the Third Belt and Road Forum, making Egypt the first country to sign such an agreement with the China International Development Cooperation Agency. Among the significant joint projects, Al Mashat referred to the development of a prosthetics manufacture system, which has presidential support and aims to establish Egypt as a regional hub for the manufacture of prosthetics to meet the demand in the Middle East and Africa. During her visit to China in July, Al Mashat also signed three memoranda of understanding to deepen cooperation on various initiatives, including macroeconomic management, industrial development, renewable energy, technological innovation, and sustainable development. One of the agreements focused on enhancing the BeiDou satellite navigation system, while another aims to expand the production of assistive technology products and services for people with mobility disabilities in Egypt.
