Qtel CEO Marafih Re-Elected To GSMA Board
Published in Amwal Al Ghad on 16 - 12 - 2012

Qtel Group CEO Dr Nasser Marafih is one of several leading industry figures to have been re-elected for another term as a Member of the Board of the GSMA, it was announced yesterday.
The GSMA is the leading mobile trade organisation that represents nearly 800 of the world's mobile operators, as well as more than 230 companies in the broader mobile ecosystem.
Dr Nasser is one of 26 members of the Board, and first joined the Board in 2011 following an election in December 2010. He will serve his next term from January 2013 through December 2014.
Dr Nasser said: "I am grateful and honoured to have been re-elected to the Board of the GSMA, one of the world's leading organisations, and congratulate Franco Bernabè on being re-elected as Chairman. I look forward to working with my colleague Members of the Board in providing direction and leadership in the rapidly changing and growing mobile industry, and in delivering life-enhancing services to millions of customers around the world."
As well as his role on the GSMA Board, Dr Nasser will also continue as Chairman of the GSMA Mobile for Development Foundation, to which he was appointed in September 2012.
In this role, he will continue to lead the community and social responsibility work of the GSMA Mobile for Development Foundation, which brings together mobile operators, the mobile industry and development community to drive services for under-served people in emerging markets. The Foundation is helping to stimulate the development of scalable, life-enhancing mobile services through programmes such as mWomen, mHealth, Mobile Money for the Unbanked, and Green Power for Mobile.
The GSMA also re-elected Franco Bernabè, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Telecom Italia Group, as its Chairman, and Jon Fredrik Baksaas, President and CEO, Telenor Group as its Deputy Chairman, for second terms in these roles.
Qtel Group also participates in the GSMA's industry-leading events, such as the Mobile World Congress and the Mobile Asia Expo.
