I will always play for Ghana because I am Ghanaian, says Frimpong Charlton midfielder Emmanuel explains his decision to play for Ghana as he believes he 'is Ghanaian' despite representing England in Youth categories
After FIFA gave him the green light to represent Ghana, Charlton midfielder Emmanuel said on Thursday that is what he chose. The 20-year-old, who was born in Ghana, is a UK national who has represented the three Lions in Youth categories, but he opted to play for the Black Stars on Tuesday. "I have always said that, no matter what, I will always play for Ghana because I believe I am a Ghanaian". Frimpong told ESPN on Thursday. Following to FIFA's green light it is likely that the youth midfielder will wear Ghana's shirt in next year's African Cup of Nations which will be played in South Africa. The four-time African champions are perennial title contenders and they are looking to improve on their disappointing fourth-place finish in this year's Nations Cup. Ghana were drawn in Group B along with DR Congo, Mali and Niger, Frimpong is currently on loan at championship side Charlton after failing to find a first-team place at the Premier League outfit Arsenal.
