Egypt's annual core consumer price index (CPI) inflation slowed to 11.4 per cent in June from 13.1 per cent in May, according to latest data released by the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE). On a monthly basis, core CPI inflation recorded a negative 0.2 per cent in June, reversing a 1.6 per cent increase in May and compared with a 1.3 per cent rise in June 2024. The CBE is expected to release the full inflation bulletin on July 15. Core inflation excludes volatile items such as food and energy and is closely watched for monetary policy decisions. The latest data reflects easing price pressures across non-food categories and suggesting that recent monetary tightening and a stabilising exchange rate may be helping to anchor inflation expectations.
