Egypt's annual core inflation rate climbed to 13.1 per cent in May from 10.4 per cent in April, data from the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) showed on Wednesday, marking a continued acceleration in price pressures. On a monthly basis, core consumer prices rose 1.6 per cent in May, up from 1.2 per cent in April and compared to a negative 0.8 per cent in the same month last year. The core CPI excludes volatile items such as food and energy and is closely watched by the CBE in assessing underlying inflation trends. The full inflation bulletin is scheduled to be published on June 15. The increase comes amid a broader economic reform programme and follows earlier signs of easing inflation after last year's currency devaluation and subsidy cuts. Attribution: Amwal Al Ghad English
