Egypt's Al-Sisi, Russian security chief discuss Gaza, Ukraine and bilateral ties
Published in Daily News Egypt on 10 - 11 - 2025

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi met with the Secretary of Russia's Security Council, Sergey Shoigu, in Cairo on Monday to discuss regional and international issues, including the implementation of the Gaza peace deal and the war in Ukraine.
Al-Sisi began the meeting by asking for his greetings to be conveyed to Russian President Vladimir Putin and expressed Egypt's appreciation for its close and developing relationship with Russia, which was crowned by the signing of a comprehensive strategic partnership agreement between the two countries, a presidency statement said.
For his part, Shoigu conveyed Putin's greetings and appreciation, affirming Russia's keenness to continue developing bilateral relations and political consultation on issues of common interest.
Al-Sisi stressed the importance of fully implementing all stages of the Sharm El-Sheikh agreement to end the war in Gaza, stabilising the ceasefire, and ensuring the entry of sufficient and unrestricted humanitarian aid. The two sides affirmed that the implementation of the two-state solution is the only way to achieve a just and lasting peace in the region.
The Egyptian president also affirmed Egypt's support for all efforts to settle the Russian-Ukrainian crisis and reach a comprehensive peace.
The meeting also reviewed ways to enhance bilateral relations, particularly in the political, trade, and investment fields, building on what was agreed upon during Al-Sisi's visit to Moscow in May 2025. They discussed the Russian Industrial Zone project in the Suez Canal Economic Zone and the Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant project. Al-Sisi stressed the importance of intensifying economic and investment cooperation, increasing trade volume, and enhancing cooperation in the tourism sector.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Shoigu expressed his country's appreciation for Egypt's role in the Middle East, stating that "history will remember the fundamental role played by President Al-Sisi in achieving regional stability."
Shoigu arrived in Cairo on Nov. 9 on a working visit, heading a delegation of Russian government institutions. His agenda includes talks with the foreign and defence ministers, as well as the heads of other security agencies, to discuss a wide range of bilateral cooperation issues, including the implementation of agreements in the military and military-technical fields. Special attention will be given to the implementation of strategic Russian projects, particularly in trade, economy, energy, and food security.
