Egypt star Salah sets African record with looping header against Bournemouth
Published in Ahram Online on 14 - 04 - 2018

Egypt star Mohamed Salah scored a rare header in Liverpool's 3-0 home victory over Bournemouth on Saturday, setting a record for most goals scored by an African player in a single Premier League season.
Having equaled Didier Drogba's record of 29 league goals in the 2009-2010 season with a strike against Crystal Palace a fortnight ago, Salah now surpassed the Ivorian legend's tally with his 30th goal of the campaign.
Following Sadio Mane's seventh-minute lead, the 25-year-old Salah doubled Liverpool's advantage in the 69th minute before Brazil striker Firmino made sure of victory seconds before the end of regular time.
A superbly-executed looping header from Salah following a deep diagonal cross from in-form full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold saw the Egyptian beat the keeper and take his tally to 40 goals this season in all competitions.
He has now widened the gap with Tottenham and England striker Harry Kane, who faces leaders Manchester City later in the day, back to five goals at the top of the scoring charts.
Salah, who became the first player in the Premier League history to win the Player of the Month accolade three times, became also the third player to hit the 40-goal mark in a single season for Liverpool alongside Roger Hunt and Ian Rush.
He has also scored in 22 different Premier League games this term; the only player to achieve this feat in a single season in the competition's history.
The ex-AS Roma winger is also leading the race for the European Golden Shoe award, with Barcelona star Lionel Messi one goal behind him.
