Ghana extend Appiah's contract ahead of World Cup Coach Kwesi Appiah will be with the Black Stars until July 2016 in a vote of confidence before the World Cup
The Ghana Football Association has extended the contract of their coach Kwesi Appiah until July 2016. "The announcement of my contract extension came in the right time as it will inspire me ahead of World Cup participation," Appiah announced on Monday. GFA president Kwesi Nyantekyie said the deal was a vote of confidence in the coach before the World Cup which starts on 12 June. "By agreeing the deal we are demonstrating our faith in Appiah beyond the World Cup," Nyantekyie was quoted as saying by BBC Sport. "We are saying that we believe Appiah is the right man to take us forward." The 53-year-old tactician, a former Black Stars captain, was appointed in April 2012 with instructions to win the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations and qualify for the 2014 World Cup. The Black Stars reached the 2014 World Cup after beating Egypt 7-3 on aggregate in a two-legged play-off. Ghana will have a tough mission in their third World Cup. They were handed a very difficult group alongside title contenders Germany, and heavyweights Portugal and the United States.
