Egypt's Mineral Resources & Mining Industries Authority (EMRA) and the Spanish company Xcalibur Smart Mapping signed a memorandum of understanding to conduct a nationwide aerial geophysical survey of Egypt's mining potential. According to the Petroleum Ministry, the agreement aims to map Egypt's mineral-rich deposits and provide the technological solutions needed for planning and evaluation. The project will create a modern, detailed database of the country's geological resources, covering six exploration zones: the Eastern Desert, the Western Desert, Sinai, the Bahariya Oases, and Abu Tartur. The signing took place during Egypt's Minister of Petroleum, Karim Badawi's visit to Xcalibur's facility at Jandakot Airport in Western Australia. During his visit, Badawi inspected the aircraft hangar prepared for survey operations, along with the sensors, flight data systems, and operational safety procedures.
