Ghana-Egypt World Cup playoff delayed by 48 hours The anticipated clash will be played on 15 October in Kumasi, two days later than initially announced by the Ghana Football Association
Ghana have delayed their anticipated World Cup qualifying playoff at home to Egypt by 48 hours, setting 15 October as the new date to host the Pharaohs. The Ghana Football Association (GFA) initially announced that the match would take place on 13 October at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi but changed its mind later “to give coach Kwesi Appiah more time to prepare his team.” “The decision is meant to give Black Stars coach Kwesi Appiah more training time with the team before the match in Kumasi,” the GFA said in a statement on Friday. “It also falls in line with FIFA's decision of playing the first-leg of the playsoff between 11 and 15 October.” The return leg will be played in November in Egypt. However, the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) is yet to decide on the venue which will host the game amid security concerns in the country. Egypt's last competitive game against Ghana saw them beat the Black Stars 1-0 to win the 2010 African Cup of Nations in Angola. Ghana crushed Egypt 3-0 in a friendly game last January in the United Arab Emirates. Egypt are eyeing their first World Cup appearance since 1990 while Ghana are seeking to reach the tournament for the third consecutive time, having reached the quarter finals in their last appearance in 2010.
