Ghana invites their former captain, Stephen Appiah as a special guest for Tuesday's historic friendly against England in Wembley stadium

Ghana Football Association boss, Kwesi Nyantakyi decided to honour the national team former star by including his name among the country's delegation that will play a friendly match against England at Wembley stadium.
Stephen Appiah was a member of the Ghana national team since 1995, making it to the FIFA U-17 World Championship and captained the senior team in the 2006 World Cup debut. He currently plays for an Italian team and hasn't played for his national team in two years after slipping from his top form.
However, the former Ghana captain was awarded ‘Ghana Footballer of the Year' for three consecutive years: 2005, 2006 and 2007.
The 30 year-old began his football career in a locally-based club, Hearts of Oak, in 1995 at the age of 15. He then embarked on his professional journey when he joined the Turkish team, Galatasaray.
Appiah earned the player of the year award in Turkey when he played for Fenerbahçe in 2007, before joining the Series A league giants, Juventus, Bologna, Udinese and Cesena.
GFA decided to reward Appiah for his influence in qualifying Ghana for their first two World Cups.
"Appiah must be part of this historic team, as he played a major role in what the Black Stars has become today," Ghana FA boss Kwesi Nyantakyi said emphatically.
“We want the other players on the squad to see that when you serve your country with all of your heart that your country will recognise and reward you," he added.
The Black Stars icon will join the GFA delegation in London on Monday one day only before the historical game.
“The Ghana FA protocol director told me that I am part of the GFA's delegation to England,” Appiah said.
“I want to thank Mr Nyantakyi, Mr Fred Pappoe my ex-Black Stars team-mates and the people of Ghana for giving me the opportunity," Appiah added.
Ghana is set to face Congo in the vital 2012 African Cup of Nations qualifier on Sunday before the friendly with England.
“Now let's beat Congo on Sunday, defeat England on Tuesday and Ghana will continue to rise,” the Ghana icon concluded.
