Ghanaian Football Association chairman Kwesi Nyantakyi believes the Black Stars have the quality and experience to win the World Cup. According to Accra Mail, Nyantakyi told cheering and optimistic journalists in a press conference that Ghana could be the first African Country to win the trophy in July. "After gaining some experience in the 2006 World Cup, Ghana are now experienced enough to win the ultimate in world football in South Africa," Nyantakyi was quoted as saying by the paper. "Ghana doesn't deserve to be ranked as second-rate country; we are going for the ultimate and surely we will win the trophy!"
Ghana U-20 won the World Cup Although playing in Group D alongside Germany, Serbia and Australia, Nyantakyi said that Ghana's European-based players could take the team to the final. "With Michael Essien, Sulley Muntari and John Paintsil, who play actively in Europe, it is possible that Ghana can conquer the world this year," he added. Ghana failed to win the African Cup of Nations in Angola earlier this year, losing 1-0 to Egypt in the final as the Pharaohs clinched their third straight title. But their U-20 national team won the World Cup 2009 in Egypt after beating Brazil on penalties in the final.
