Egypt will face Ghana away from home on 13 October in the first leg of the World Cup qualifying playoff, Egypt's state-run news agency MENA reported on Tuesday. MENA said the Ghana Football Association informed the Egyptian embassy in Accra that the match would be played in Kumasi, where Cairo giants Zamalek famously suffered a 5-1 defeat by Asante Kotoko in an African Champions League game in 1987. The return leg will be played in November in Egypt. However, the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) is yet to decide on the venue which will host the game amid security concerns in the country. Egypt's last competitive game against Ghana saw them beat the Black Stars 1-0 to win the 2010 African Cup of Nations in Angola. Ghana crushed Egypt 3-0 in a friendly game last January in the United Arab Emirates. The Pharaohs are eyeing their first World Cup appearance since 1990 while Ghana are seeking to reach the tournament for the third consecutive time, having reached the quarter finals in their last appearance in 2010.
