SUEZ, Egypt: Navigation in the strategic Suez Canal was disrupted for six hours because of an American armada headed to the Mediterranean Sea, security and eyewitnesses today reported. The armada included six American warships that were accompanied by Egyptian military ships, tugboats and infantry units. The disruption led to a standstill from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in ferries' movement to and from Sinai and Ismailia as well as on the Al Salam Bridge. The international road in Port Said was closed completely but is now open to traffic, security sources reported.
