DAKAHLIA, Egypt: Around 300 Egyptian schoolboys in primary school and their parents demonstrated outside Dakahlia City Hall today. They called to establishing a primary school in their village, Magar, as their current school is three kilometers away from their homes. The children threatened to protest outside Cairo's Radio and Television headquarters if their demands are not met. The protesting children chanted, "People need a new school," and raised signs saying, "children of Ashraf Alcardaoy School ask where are the officials?" They have not had a primary school in their village for eight years. "We actually built a school by our own effort with complete staff, and the children studied in it for eight years, but the Education Directorate closed the school, and the students were transported to Meet el-Sarem School, which is 3 kilometers away from their homes, because there are high voltage wires near the old school," said one of protesting parents, Reda Fathi. The situation became very dangerous when a resident rescued one of the students from being kidnapped on a Tuk Tuk because of the security disorder in Egypt, said another parent Hassanein Shehata. "We are ready to transport the high volt wires far away from the old school on our personal expense to keep the children save, said Ahmed al-Sayyed al-Shahat, another parent.
