CAIRO: Egyptian Minister of Agriculture is preparing to double the quantity of wheat seeds production in preparation for the winter season, increasing it to around 67,500,000 kilograms in hands of all Egyptian farmers, according to the head of service sector of Ministry of Agriculture, Salah Moawad. New kinds of seeds have higher quality to increase wheat production and achieve self-sufficiency to reach more than 40 percent of the budget deficit in all Egyptian governorates, he added. There is effort in providing all requirements of seeds and fertilizers through agricultural cooperatives. The ministry is keen to stimulate Egyptian farmers' roles to increase their wheat crops. Moawad said if there are recommendations to develop, there will be self-sufficiency of wheat during the upcoming period. The ministry is also preparing a plan to get rid of the black market to activate the government's role in monitoring the production process and achieves a higher quality of seeds. The plan is in the framework of eliminating the wheat crisis throughout Egypt since there is expectation of exaggeration of the crisis during the winter. The ministry provided Egyptian farmers with seeds to meet the citizens' demands last year.
