Minister of Public Enterprises Sector Mohamed El-Shimy reviewed the implementation steps to restart the carbon anode block factory in Ain Sokhna, following a shutdown of over two years. The initiative comes under an agreement signed around six months ago between the Egyptian Carbon Anode Blocks Company and bp, aiming to reinforce aluminium production chains and deliver high-quality local alternatives. The announcement was made during El-Shimy's visit on Saturday to the Egyptian Carbon Anode Blocks Company—a subsidiary of the Metallurgical Industries Holding Company—located in the Ain Sokhna Free Zone. During the visit, the Minister met with Suez Governor Tarek El-Shazly and several members of parliament representing the governorate. El-Shimy praised the productive cooperation with the Suez governorate, highlighting its vital role as an industrial and investment hub in the national economy. He also emphasised the ministry's commitment to continued coordination with governors and local executive and legislative leaders to advance integrated development through projects implemented by affiliated companies. Governor El-Shazly welcomed the visit, describing the factory's restart as an important step to boost Egypt's aluminium industry. He affirmed the governorate's full readiness to offer support and coordination to help ensure the project's success. Parliament members in attendance expressed appreciation for the ministry's efforts to revive strategic industrial assets. They also called for sustained efforts to increase investment and localise key industries in the region.
