FAYOUM, Egypt: The guard of an abandoned church in Roda village in Fayoum was killed in an armed attack today. The assailants killed the guard and attempted to steal his gun, but village families intervened and tried to catch the assailants, but they escaped. Gen. Salah al-Azizy, security director of Fayoum, received notification today of the guard's death, 35-year-old Rabeea Ali Mohamed Abdel Samiea. Priest Michaiel, deputy to the Archbishop, said the incident was not related to the church itself. The assailants just wanted to steal the guard's gun. There is now a very strong military presence in the village, especially around the church.
