CAIRO: The coordinator of Egypt's popular committees, Hamdy al-Fiqi, said an operating room is being prepared to follow the popular committees' performance in all governorates during Eid el-Fitr, the feast which follows the end of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan. The operating room is prepared to receive complaints and a hot line will be accessible 24 hours a day, said al-Fiqi. He also said the popular committees will organize intensive campaigns to reduce high prices and gas cylinders will be distributed at low prices in different governorates, as well as supplying commodities during the Eid. Displays of clothes will be open to sell clothes for poor families and orphans at low prices. They will be in cooperation with NGOs and the Ministry of Social Justice and Solidarity. Popular committees were initially established in Egypt amid the security vacuum during the country's January 25 Revolution to protect communities and neighborhoods. The popular committees continue to be active in both providing security and in dealing with citizens' needs.
