Ahli defense star Wael Gomaa played down the seriousness of his recent injury problem as he hopes to be fit for Egypt's crucial qualifying run-in next month. The 36-year-old, an irreplaceable member of Ahli and Egypt's backline, re-aggravated a calf injury in the Champions League game at Stade Malien last week. The fresh blow raised fears over the fitness of the veteran defender - who is not usually known for being injury-prone - as he looks set to fly to Portugal for rehabilitation. “I want to reassure fans that my injury is not serious despite the recurrence,” Gomaa told FilGoal.com. “The Portugal trip is only meant for rehab not for treatment. I should follow a detailed fitness program so that hopefully I can be fit for the Egypt gathering this month. “I am always in contact with coach Bob Bradley and I hope to make my comeback to the national team's squad soon.” Egypt are braced for a busy month of June as they face four World Cup and CAN 2013 qualifiers in quick succession. On the other hand, Ahli have a decisive round of 16 second leg against Stade Malien this month; a game that Gomaa will definitely miss.
