Ahmed Elmohamady's Sunderland succumbed to a 2-1 English Premier League defeat at Wolverhampton on Martin O'Neill's debut. Egypt winger Elmohamady came on as a second-half sub with his side leading in the 70th minute. The Black Cats were one-nil up courtesy of a goal from Kieran Richardson early in the second half but were pegged back by a quick double from Steven Fletcher. Fletcher's first goal was, ironically, three minutes after the introduction of Elmohamady in place of Korean winger Dong-Won Ji. Scotland striker Fletcher then completed his brace seven minutes from time, but there was a lot of controversy over the legitimacy of the goal as John O'Hara appeared to have clearly handled the ball before the finish. It was a debut defeat for O'Neill, who was installed as Sunderland manager following the sacking of Steve Bruce few days ago. The result left Sunderland in 17th place on 11 points as their winless streak is now stretched to five straight games.
