Goalkeeper Abdul-Wahed Al-Sayed has penned a three-year contract extension with Zamalek, the Cairo side announced on Sunday. "Talks over renewing Al-Sayed's deal lasted for a few minutes," Zamalek said in a statement on their official website. "He was so keen to remain at the club to the extent that he did not set any conditions to pen the contract extension." Al-Sayed's contract was due to expire at the end of the season as speculation suggested that he might join Zamalek's arch-rivals Ahli. The 31-year-old guardian was also frustrated after being subjected to angry taunts from Zamalek fans during the White Knights' Egyptian Super Cup defeat to Ahli. "The prospect of leaving Zamalek did cross my mind," he admitted to FilGoal.com. "But I can't leave Zamalek now because the club are enduring a crisis. They need the aid of every player." First-choice Keeper After recovering from a serious knee injury in the summer, Al-Sayed won back his place as Zamalek's first-choice keeper. He produced some disappointing displays but gradually regained his form, becoming the only Zamalek player to earn plaudits amid a dreadful run of results. Zamalek suffered narrow-margin defeats to Zimbabwe's Dynamos in the Champions League and Ismaili in the Egyptian League, thanks to Al-Sayed's heroics. Dynamos and Ismaili created numerous goalscoring opportunities but they were denied by Al-Sayed, who was named as Zamalek's captain after Ayman Abdul-Aziz was punished. The veteran goalie, who came through Zamalek youth ranks, has become the team's preferred option between the sticks since Nader Al-Sayed left them in 1998.
