Essam Al-Hadari conceded three goals before being injured in Sion's embarrassing 3-0 defeat to Basel in the Swiss League on Thursday. Serbian midfielder Marko Perovic opened the scoring after nine minutes. His attempted cross from a right-wing free-kick flew past the badly-positioned Al-Hadari and into the top corner. The Egypt keeper was to blame for Basel's second goal just before the break. Although he is renowned for his ability to deny strikers in one-on-one situations, a Basel forward easily rounded him, leaving the former Ahli goalie with no chance but to bring him down. The referee immediately pointed to the spot and Benjamin Huggel sent Al-Hadari the wrong way to double Basel's advantage. Midfielder Valentin Stocker put the result beyond doubt when his free header went past the motionless Al-Hadari in the 62nd minute. Things went from bad to worse for the 35-year-old guardian six minutes later. He had to leave the pitch after being injured, making way for stand-in keeper Germano Vailati. Sion, who have the worst defensive record in the league after leaking 26 goals in 13 matches, are seventh in the table with 13 points.
