Substitute Vicente added the third in the 82nd minute with a shot from a tight angle. Villa wrapped up the victory three minutes from time to condemn Numancia to a heavy defeat. The result put Valencia on top of the table with 19 points, two ahead of second-placed Villarreal. Barcelona moved into third spot after claiming a 1-0 victory over Athletic Bilbao, courtesy of a Samuel Eto'o strike in the 63rd minute.
