Mido said he was likely to stay at Middlesbrough after holding a meeting with coach Gareth Southgate on Friday. The Egyptian striker said earlier this week that Wigan Athletic were interested in signing him before the closure of the transfer window. While reiterating that Wigan coach Steve Bruce is keen on luring him to the JJB stadium, Mido revealed he was inclined to carry on with Middlesbrough. “Anything could happen in the next couple of days,” he told Modern Sports late on Friday. “However, it is unlikely that I will leave Boro because the team made it clear they want to keep hold of me.” The 25-year-old obviously considered departing the Riverside for the sake of more regular football. Mido scored three goals in as many games this season, two of which he came on as a second-half substitute. “During my meeting with Southgate, I talked with him about my limited opportunities as a regular starter.” “He told me that he is trying to gradually help me rediscover my form after a length lay-off due to injury.” “Southgate assured me that I will get more regular football once I regain full fitness,” Mido added.
