Mido's superb goal for Middlesbrough wasn't enough as Liverpool came from behind to earn a precious 2-1 victory at Anfield Road, thanks to Steven Gerrard's last-gasp strike. Substitute Mido, who scored in Boro's 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in the Premiership opener, was introduced on the hour mark instead of Afonso Alves. He made an instant impact, bothering Liverpool's defense through his penetrating runs down the left flank. Two minutes after his introduction, the former Roma and Marseille man got the better of Alvaro Arbeloa on the left before providing a low cross to Tuncay Sanli. The Turkish international shrugged off Jamie Carragher's challenge via a brilliant flick before turning and shooting goalwards, but his weak efforts was collected by Jose Reina. In the 69th minute, Mido collected a Jeremie Aliadiere pass before smashing a powerful low drive from 25 yards that left Spanish keeper Reina with no chance.

Liverpool's inspirational skipper Gerrard secured a valuable victory for the Reds deep in stoppage time.
