Hamburg sporting director Dietmar Beiersdorfer admitted the club want to keep Rafael van der Vaart till the end of his contract instead of letting him go in the off-season. "We are still in discussions with Rafael and his people and we will follow the situation closely," Beiersdorfer told Bundesliga.de. "We would like to keep him in Hamburg and we have told him so in no uncertain terms. "He still has two years to run on his current contract so the decision does not lie with the player alone, but we have to make the right decision for the future of HSV as a club." The Dutch midfielder said repeatedly that he wants to move to Spain, where Valencia and Atletico Madrid are interested in his services. Van der Vaart is Hamburg's captain and their top-scorer this season with nine goals.
