Mohamed Zidan's Hamburg have turned down Real Madrid's offer to sign Dutch playmaker Rafael van der Vaart. Real have seemingly stepped up their efforts during the past few weeks to sign Van der Vaart, who put in some fine displays in EURO 2008 with Holland. However, Hamburg were not satisfied with the Spanish champions' valuation of the player. "The offer was absolutely out of the question," Hamburg sports director Dietmar Beiersdorfer told German agency SID. Real have reportedly offered seven million euros to lure Van der Vaart to the Santiago Bernabeu. The expected departure of the 25-year-old could help Egyptian forward Zidan have more regular first-team football next season.
