Al-Sailiya's impressive run of results came to end in a humiliating way after they suffered a 6-1 home defeat to Qatar club in the local league on Wednesday. The first-half ended goalless, but Qatar opened the floodgates after the interval. A hat-trick from Uruguayan-born Sebastian Quintana in addition to goals from Fahed Masoud, Meshaal Mubarak and Eric Djemba-Djemba condemned Al-Sailiya to a heavy defeat. Omani player Ahmed Mubarak notched the consolation from Al-Sailiya, where Egyptian defender Wael Gomaa plays. Gomaa, who is on loan from Ahli, couldn't replicate the form that saw him praised by the club following the 2-0 away victory over Al-Rayyan. Despite the embarrassing defeat, the newly-promoted Al-Sailiya are still third in the league table with 16 points, just one ahead of Qatar.
