Manchester United's perfect record in the Premiership came to end an end after a 1-0 defeat to rivals Arsenal at Old Trafford on Sunday. Togolese striker Emmanuel Adebayor struck the winner in the 85th minute to give the Gunners their first local victory this season and raised their tally to 5 points. Arsenal came on with all guns blazing despite playing without injured skipper Theirry Henry, but Adebayor did will to cover for the French ace. The leggy forward latched on to a through pass from Alexander Hleb before being upended by debutant goalkeeper Tomasz Kuszczak in the area. The Polish keeper, filling in for the ill Edwin van der Sar, made up for his mistake and parried away Gilberto Silva's 11th minute spot-kick. Kuszczak kept United in contention with two brilliant saves before the break, one from an Adebayor header, the other from a stinging Tomas Rosicky drive.
Arsenal continued to be the better side after the interval even though the hosts showed slight improvement, but it was not enough to keep the Champions League finalists at bay. With five minutes left to play, Francesc Fabregas stole the ball from Cristiano Ronaldo in midfield before threading a slick through pass to Adebayor in the area. Adebayor finished the play clinically, poking the ball past the advancing Kuszczak. Arsenal goalkeeper Jens Lehmann did well to tip away Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's last gasp shot as the Gunners held on for the dramatic win. In other matches, Fulham held Tottenham to a goalless draw, Blackburn beat Manchester City 4-2 and Newcastle cruised to a 2-0 win over West Ham.
