Togolese striker Emmanuel Adebayor scored twice as Arsenal returned to the top of the Premiership table with a 3-1 away victory over Manchester City on Saturday. Arsenal condemned City to their first home defeat of the season to become in charge of the table with 60 points, three ahead of second-placed Manchester United. Title holders United could regain the summit if they beat Tottenham Hotspur later in the day. The in-form Adebayor put the Gunners ahead after nine minutes after finishing off a swift passing move. A series of passes released Bacary Sagna, who outpaced Michael Ball down the right and sent a low cross to the giant striker, who made no mistake from close range. Brazilian-born striker Eduardo da Silva extended the lead in the 26th minute after an acrobatic effort. He chested Adebayor's cross and turned before superbly volleying home. City pulled one back two minutes later when Vedran Corluka stole possession from Gael Clichy near the byline and found the unmarked Gelson Fernandes, who fired home. However, Adebayor put the result beyond doubt two minutes from time after Alexander Hleb and Cesc Fabregas combined to set him up.
