The Egyptian FA has announced the draw for the 2013-2014 league season, with a crunch encounter between Zamalek and Masri taking place in the opening round. Setting the 26th of December as the supposed kick off date, the FA confirmed all fixtures for the first half of the season, stressing that all matches are to be held behind closed doors. The first week will see defending champions Ahli take on Military Production away in Group A, whereas top Group B side Zamalek clash with Masri in Cairo. After returning to the top flight following the infamous Port-Said disaster, Masri will be playing their first competitive match since the February 2012 incident. The match is expected to bring a lot of tension as the animosity between Masri and Cairo giants Ahli is far from being cool. Another significant match will see Ismaili take on city rivals Canal in an Ismailia derby. Despite the FA's confirmation that domestic football will be resumed this month, doubts are still raised amid the unstable political scene in Egypt. It is believed that should the Egyptian football governing body fail again to get the competition underway this month, the 2013-2014 will be officially considered cancelled.
