CAIRO--Egypt's General Authority for Supply Commodities (GASC) said on Sunday it had bought 57,200 tonnes of rice from the local market through a tender. Nomani Nomani, vice chairman of GASC, told Reuters the price range was 2,000-2,230 Egyptian pounds ($360.9-$402.4) per tonne. The quantity was due to be supplied to consumers under the subsidy programme between Sept. 9-30. In its latest tender on Aug. 3, GASC bought 80,000 tonnes of rice from the domestic market at 1,979 pounds per tonne.
