Egypt leads Arab diplomatic push on Gaza crisis, Palestinian statehood
Published in Daily News Egypt on 07 - 02 - 2025

Egypt Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigration, Badr Abdelatty, has held intensive consultations with foreign ministers from across the Arab world to address the escalating crisis in Gaza and the broader Palestinian issue, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigration.
Abdelatty spoke with his counterparts from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Oman, Bahrain (the current chair of the Arab League summit), Jordan, Iraq, Algeria, Tunisia, Mauritania, and Sudan.
The discussions centred on developments in the Palestinian territories and reaffirmed the unified Arab position rejecting any measures aimed at displacing Palestinians from their land or encouraging their relocation outside Palestinian territories.
Such proposals, the ministers agreed, constitute a blatant violation of international law, an infringement on Palestinian rights, and a threat to regional security, undermining prospects for peaceful coexistence.
The consultations also highlighted a shared commitment to pursuing a lasting and just political resolution to the Palestinian issue. The ministers reiterated that the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on the 4 June 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in line with international resolutions, remains the only viable path forward.
Minister Abdelatty detailed Egypt's ongoing efforts to solidify the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, ensure its full implementation in three phases, and facilitate the swift delivery of humanitarian aid.
He also outlined initiatives aimed at promoting early recovery projects, debris removal, and reconstruction, while preventing the displacement of Palestinians from Gaza. He underscored Egypt's unwavering support for the legitimate and inalienable rights of the Palestinian people.
The Arab ministers agreed to maintain close contact in the coming weeks and to continue coordinating and consulting with their regional counterparts.
On Thursday Egypt warned Israel against any displacement of Palestinians and launched a diplomatic blitz behind the scenes against the proposal.
