President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi directed the government to begin establishing an integrated industrial complex to localise the production of prosthetic limbs and devices for citizens with special needs in cooperation with foreign companies specialised in this field.
The president made his remarks during a meeting on Tuesday with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Social Solidarity Nevin El-Kabbaj, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Mohamed Ayman Ashour, and Mohamed Awad Taj Al-Din — Advisor to the President for Health and Prevention Affairs.
The meeting was also attended by several officials of the Egyptian Armed Forces.
The presidential mandate aims to support citizens with special needs and help them lead a normal daily life. Al-Sisi also directed to expand the preparation of state facilities to deal with people with special needs in accordance with international codes and standards.
According to a statement by Presidential Spokesperson Bassam Rady, the meeting reviewed the outcomes of contacts with various international companies, as well as the results of external field visits to see the latest capabilities in this field in an effort to establish the complex through several main axes, the most important of being the production of high-quality components, technology transfer, industry localisation, and the promotion of scientific research and development.
The complex shall include a group of factories specialising in the production of components for prosthetics, immobilisers and orthoses, prefabricated materials, wheelchairs and movement aids, medical shoes, and silicone products.
