Khaled El-Enany, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, has met with Russian Ambassadorto Egypt, Georgiy Borisenko, to discuss ways to enhance cooperation in the tourism and archaeological field.
The meeting was also attended by Ambassador Dalia Abdel Fattah, General Supervisor of the General Department of International Relations and Agreements at the Ministry.
El-Enany stressed the depth of relations between the two countries and the cooperation they are witnessing in many fields, including tourism and antiquities.
For his part, the Russian Ambassador also highlighted the fruitful and effective cooperation between the two countries in many fields and his country's interest in strengthening this permanent cooperation.
He expressed his appreciation for the efforts made by the Egyptian government to restore the tourism movement to Egypt to the pre-coronavirus levels.
The meeting touched upon discussing cooperation mechanisms between the two countries to push more tourist movement to the Egyptian tourist destination, cooperation in the field of archaeological excavations, exchanging experiences in the field of restoration, and training workers in the tourism and archaeological sectors.
Notably, charter flights from Russia to Egypt's Red Sea resorts resumed last week after being suspended for six years following the terrorist attack on a Russian passenger plane over Sinai in 2015. Regular flights from Russia to Sharm El-Sheikh and Hurghada were also resumed on 9 August. This came after Moscow and Cairo agreed in April 2021, to fully resume air traffic between the two countries, including with Egyptian resorts.
